Making an appointment with the Academic Success Center
FIRST TIME
If this is your first time making an appointment, you will need to first create an account.
Go to the Penji website and click "Continue"
Confirm your Macomb email address. Then click the box if you agree to the terms of service and click "Next" and finish the process.
Once your account is set-up, continue with the Returning User directions below.
RETURNING USER
Once you have your Penji account set up, you can make an appointment with a Reading and Writing Studios tutor.
1. Go to the Penji website and then log in with your Macomb email address and password. Use the same password you use to log in to my.macomb or your college email.
2. Select "Macomb Reading/Writing Tutoring" if you are prompted to select the type of tutoring. If not, check that the page shows "Macomb Reading/Writing Tutoring" in the top navigation bar (1).
3. Then select Reading/Writing: 60-minute appointment (2).
If the top navigation bar says Macomb Subject Tutoring or something else, click on "Macomb Reading/Writing Tutoring" under Other Communities (3) in the left navigation area.
4. Select "Join a Subject" and then select the subject that fits best with the help you need. You can also select "Lara's schedule for Prof. Karlis's embedded classes" or "Aaron's schedule for Prof. Karlis's embedded classes" if you would like to specifically work with our embedded tutors.
Note: If their availability doesn't work for your schedule, I recommend going back and selecting "Writing (any course)"
Once you select a subject, it will stay in your saved list when you make future appointments. If you need to add a different subject, you can select "Edit your subjects" to select additional tutoring types.
5. Next, you can filter by location (4), if you would like to specify South Campus, Center Campus, an online Zoom meeting, or Asynchronous Writing Feedback (Note: Asynchronous feedback should only be used after the draft is complete or mostly complete).
6. Then click on a time slot (5) to select the time you want to make an appointment with a tutor and click select (6).
7. Choose the tutor you would like to work with, and then click "Select" on the following screen.
8. Choose the location/method in which you would like to meet and then click next. (Note: there may only be one option here).
9. Then fill out the form for your assignment. This will help the tutor understand what kind of help you are looking for and also understand the assignment. Click "Next" when you have completed the form.
10. Double-check the date, time, and location on the Overview screen, and if everything is correct, click "Complete."
You will receive an email with your appointment information, but I also recommend adding it to your phone calendar or planner.
